Join Us for an Adventure to Benefit Red Wolves
In partnership with Running Wild Expeditions, the Endangered Wolf Center is offering a custom wildlife adventure into the heart of American Red Wolf country. With an emphasis on wildlife encounters, wildlife photography and videography, as well as learning about local culture, participants will experience firsthand the impact of the Endangered Wolf Center’s mission.
Event Highlights
- Visit the only location in the world that has wild Red Wolves.
- Wildlife sightings may include wolves, birds, black bears, otters, deer, and more.
- Explore flooded forests, swamps, and coastal habitats of NC by boat.
- Meet with USFWS at the Red Wolf Education Center and learn about the work that goes into protecting wolves in the wild.
- Travel with Endangered Wolf Center staff and gain valuable insight on Red Wolf behavior, biology, and conservation.
- Learn and practice special wildlife photography skills with Running Wild Media.

Day 1
After a day of travel via Norfolk International Airport, we will arrive at our home base in the Outer Banks with a little time to unpack and relax before a group dinner in Manteo. We’ll end the night at home base with a celebratory drink, toasting our upcoming adventure.
Day 2
Start the morning early with our first game drive in Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge (ARNWR), followed by brunch in Manteo. Then, we’ll visit the Coastal North Carolina Refuges Gateway Visitor Center to learn more about the habitats, wildlife, and history of the East North Carolina Refuges.
We’ll take a mid-day break to relax back at home base, with an opportunity to learn more about the Endangered Wolf Center’s conservation efforts, with a focus on Red Wolves transferred from EWC to ARNWR, featuring never-before-seen footage of transfers from Running Wild Media/BBC. We’ll return to ARNWR for an early evening game drive followed by dinner in Manteo, and a nightcap at home base.
Day 3
Another early start to squeeze a game drive in before breakfast in Columbia. Next, we’ll visit the Red Wolf Education and Health Care Facility and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. We’ll lunch in Columbia before heading back into ARNWR for a program and evening game drive. We’ll grab a quick dinner in Manteo before retreating to home base for some well-earned rest.
Day 4
The morning starts with another opportunity to take an early game drive to ARNWR before breakfast. Then explore the local natural environment by airboat with Outer Banks Adventures, visiting sand bars, salt marshes, and swamps. Return home mid-afternoon for a short break before dinner and an evening game drive.
Day 5
Last chance for a pre-breakfast game drive! Spend the remainder of the morning visiting the North Carolina Aquarium in Roanoke, including a special behind-the-scenes tour. The afternoon is dedicated to exploration of downtown Manteo, with a final-night dinner back at home base.
Day 6
Departure day via Norfolk.
