Junior Keeper encourages older children to learn about endangered species, in particular, endangered wolves, and what the Endangered Wolf Center is doing to help certain species make a comeback. They also learn about wolf behavior, development, and the ecological importance of the wolf, through games and fun activities.
As a participant in the Junior Keeper program, your child will learn about different career opportunities in the field of conservation and especially what it takes to be a successful animal keeper. In addition to all of the fun, outdoor activities, campers will experience “behind the scenes” tours of the enclosures and talking with professional animal keepers. A few of the activities include a hike to the bat cave, a pond study, building Native American shelters, and much, much, more!
All Junior Keeper activities are guided by Endangered Wolf Center staff and trained volunteers. The Junior Keeper attendees will NOT have the opportunity to pet or play with any of the wolves or canids that we house. The Endangered Wolf Center breeds endangered species for release into the wild, and we do not have any hands-on contact with our animals. However, the campers will have many opportunities to see the wolves from outside their enclosures, and they will have the opportunity to take photos of the wolves on Camera Day.
Endangered Wolf Center does not have the accommodations to car pool any of the campers. All attendees will need to be dropped off by 9:00 a.m. and picked up by 3:00 p.m. at the main entrance of Tyson Research Center (located off I-44 at the Beaumont/Antire exit, exit #269 on the north side of the highway).
